Add photos and videos

Import with the system photo picker or capture with the system camera. Selected originals are copied into Mimi. Existing records and typed notes work offline.

Dates and places

Correct a date manually when the original lacks one. Editing a journal place does not guarantee removal of original metadata. This HarmonyOS version has no map search or in-app dictation; you can type your notes.

Full backup and restore

On HarmonyOS phones, a backup is one .mimibackup.zip file. Use the system file picker to choose an export destination or select a backup to restore. Mimi validates it before merging and deduplicating; existing records are retained. Backups include all original media and journal text and are not encrypted. Keep them safe.

Each backup must be smaller than 2 GiB (at most 2,147,483,647 bytes), with no more than 10,000 ZIP entries and a journal.json index of at most 50 MB (50,000,000 bytes). Only standard uncompressed ZIP entries (method 0) are supported. ZIP64, compressed entries and encrypted entries are unsupported. Do not substitute an ordinary compressed ZIP.

Legacy .mimibackup folders remain compatible: on a computer, wrap the complete folder in a standard uncompressed ZIP, retaining its folder structure, journal.json and originals. Devices that support system folder selection can also restore the folder directly. Keep the whole folder, not just the index file.

Cancelling file selection or failing backup validation does not merge records. Copying and validation use a separate private temporary directory, which is cleaned up when the operation ends. For cloud drives or other file providers, make sure the complete file is readable. The provider may store or sync its own copies; manage your exported file and provider copies separately.

Deletion and changing devices

Deleting a Mimi record leaves its system photo-library original intact. Keep a complete backup before changing devices or uninstalling; Mimi has no automatic sync. Manage exported files and system backups separately.
